Be like the sky

Pema Chödrön said:

You are the sky. Everything else – it’s just the weather.”

Your mind doesn’t need to be constrained by what’s going on in your head; it can be vast, open and free, like the sky.

Use this meditation to get out of a ‘busy’ head:

  • Find a place to sit quietly and bring your awareness to your breath.
  • Imagine that your mind is as limitless and open as the sky. Watch your thoughts and feelings flow across it like clouds while you remain anchored in your body and aware of the natural flow of your breath.
  • Give your mind permission to be the way it is. Don’t try to control it; rather, observe the arising of thoughts and emotions – the ‘weather’ – without becoming absorbed in or swept away by them.

Simply rest in this open, embodied awareness without striving in any way. Enjoy your practice!
